It seems like with every new day there are a new one hundred people sent to the morgue. It snowed heavy flakes yesterday and today spring decided to stop by once more. I try to keep the weight of the plague out of my mind more for my own health, but reality cannot be ignored. Police cars, ambulances, and fire engines are everywhere. Every street I turn on I can see one of their lights in the distance.…more

On this morning of mid-April snow flurries people are protesting at the capitol that they cannot ride their motorboats, journey to their second vacation homes, or purchase seeds at mega-stores. Planting season is not until next month. The waters are still well within hypothermia range. My confidence in the people of this country continues to slip. If there is a revolution it will be a disaster.

Today I received the news that my neighbor died in the hospital. Today has also been the bloodiest day so far. 205 dead. I don’t even look at the infection numbers anymore. Testing takes multiple days to return positive or negative and be properly recorded, so the infection numbers are always behind the current reality. The giant convention hall downtown has opened as an emergency field hospital. It supposedly has 970 beds and is staff assisted by FEMA.…more

Yesterday was the first hot day of the year. It was also the morning I woke up to the news that Bernie Sanders has suspended his presidential campaign. Part of me felt shell-shocked, part of me had a feeling of relief, and part of me felt a dire urgency. The urgency is the easiest to explain, so I quickly dressed myself and went out. I needed to get passport photos. My ATF forms need to be sent out ASAP.…more

Each morning I wake up I question if today is going to be the day. I wonder if today is going to be the moment this cough incapacitates me. If today is going to be the day I collapse. The illness turns fatal within 24 hours. People who are normally walking into the ER and talking to the nurses are on ventilators within hours. I can’t help but wonder if one of those cases will be me soon enough.…more

This is the fourth day I have woken up with a tiny cough. Things have progressed from an emergency declaration to a disaster declaration. This means checkpoints can be set up. Today is Friday, so if checkpoints are going up soon I expect it will be next week. The stay-at-home orders have been extended from April 6th to April 30th and all schools are now closed for the remainder of the school year.…more

I just had a dream where I was on a bus in the middle of the summer. I know it was summer because the roadside of the highway was a rolling green. I was laughing with the people next to me. I wsa sitting in the back of the bus. Things were fun and it felt like we had just done some outdoor activity or something. I looked out the window and thought this must be real, because things are so clear.…more

This evening I watched my neighbor be lifted into an ambulance by EMS. The wagon was parked right in front of my house and I watched from my front door. He was the father of two children, whom lived with him in his house along with their children. Three families are in that household next door. Now I worry if everyone there has become infected. Some hours after I heard one of the children crying before hearing a car driving off.…more

This morning I woke up to the news that Boris Johnson was diagnosed positive for COVID-19. I’m not sure what to feel about that, but it was less distressing than the next bit of news. The governor of my state requested a disaster declaration from Washington, but it was denied because she declined to kiss the Orange Emperor’s ass. After midday the latest numbers came in: 801 additional infections and 32 additional deaths.…more

This morning my neighbor sounded like he was coughing up a lung. He is a young guy that smokes weed everyday for years, but I have never heard him cough like that. His door is below my window so I heard him hack and wheeze for four minutes before his car started and he drove off for the day. I laid in bed and stared into nothing. The virus was here.…more
